FROSTBURG, MD. – No. 18 William Paterson's (0-1) second-half rally wasn't enough as the short-handed Pioneers dropped their 2013-14 women's basketball season opener, 51-47, to Gettysburg (1-0) Nov. 15 in the first round of Frostburg's Jim Crawley Tournament.

In a rematch of a 2013 NCAA Tournament contest that WP won, 71-64, it was the Bullets who exacted revenge after building a 31-18 halftime lead behind 46.2 (12-26) percent shooting. Gettysburg extended that advantage to as many as 16 (39-23, 17:00), but an Ashley Palmieri (Edison, N.J./Metuchen) tip-in, Dana Jeter (Hamilton, N.J./Steinert) layup, Floriana Borova (Cresskill, N.J./Cresskill) three-pointer and Kristine Jackiewicz (Quakertown, Pa./Quakertown) bucket cut it to seven at 39-32 with 11:35 remaining.

A later 8-1 burst pulled William Paterson to within two (46-44, 3:54), but that was as close as the Pioneers could get as they missed their next three attempts from the floor. Gettysburg went 3-for-4 (.750) from the free-throw line during the game's final 20 seconds to secure the win.

Jeter posted 14 points and a game-best 13 rebounds, while Jackiewicz finished with 10 tallies and 10 boards. Borova chipped in 14 points and Palmieri collected five rebounds. WP was playing without starting junior center Ashley Marfo (Bergenfield, N.J./Bergenfield) due to an injury.

Jessica Porter led all scorers with 15 points for the Bullets. Caroline Murphy added 14 tallies and 11 rebounds.

William Paterson will face host Frostburg in the Jim Crawley Tournament consolation game Saturday, Nov. 16, at 1:00 p.m.
