TCNJ Upends Hornet Women 81-64 in Marymount Tournament

ARLINGTON, VA – The Lynchburg College women's basketball team scored the game's first seven points Friday, but the College of New Jersey controlled the action the rest of the way as TCNJ defeated LC 81-64 in the opening round of the Pablo Coto Tip-Off Tournament, hosted by Marymount University.  

The Lions answered LC's 7-0 run to start the game with a 12-0 surge to go ahead 12-7 six minutes into the half. TCNJ held a 35-27 advantage into the break and hit a three-pointer a minute into the second half and led by double figures the rest of the way.

Sophomore forward Chaney Forbush had an outstanding opening night for Lynchburg, posting 26 points, 12 rebounds and a pair of blocked shots. Including these game highs, she sank nine of her 13 shots from the field and 8-of-10 from the charity stripe.

Sammi Goldsmith tallied 12 points, eight rebounds and six assists and hit two three-pointers. Shannon Allan scored 13 points and Katie Reeves added eight points and six rebounds.

Kylie O'Donnell had 17 points for the Lions (1-0) while Kelly Roddy and Kelly Coughlin each had 13 points. TCNJ's bench scored 29 points to LC's two and forced the Hornets into 24 turnovers.

Lynchburg (0-1) will play in the consolation game Saturday at 5:30 p.m. against the loser of tonight's Marymount/Haverford College game.
