Women's Basketball Earns Win at Lehman

BRONX,N.Y.— The John Jay women's basketball team picked up another conference win on Thursday evening defeating Lehman College on the road 83-49.
 
The win improves John Jay to 7-6 overall and 5-1 in City University of New York Athletic Conference play. Lehman College falls to 1-12 overall and 1-4 in conference play.
 
The Bloodhounds were led by Simone Victor with 23 points and 10 rebounds. She was one of four John Jay players to score in double figures. Jamecia Forsythe added 15 points, 10 rebounds and five blocks, while Tyana Hale had 12 points and eight rebounds. Victoria Story added 10 points and seven rebounds in the win.
 
Lehman was led by Keonti Powell with 25 points, seven rebounds and five steals, while Jennifer Navarro knocked in 18 points.
 
John Jay shot a season-high 47.5 percent from the floor (29-for-61) and held a 61-37 advantage in rebounding.
 
The Bloodhounds held a 34-12 advantage on points in the paint and 14-6 on second chance points.
 
John Jay's 83 points was a season-high for the Bloodhounds.
 
The opening stages of the game saw five lead changes and two ties. But the Bloodhounds took the lead for good at the 10:29 mark of the first half on a three point field goal by Victor. The field goal came in the midst of a 23-4 run to close out the first half as John Jay took a 21-16 deficit and turned it into a 39-25 halftime lead.
 
The Bloodhounds maintained a double-digit lead the rest of the way and pulled away gradually the entire second half before winning.
