Suggs adds honors from WBCA, NEWBA, D3hoops

More news about: University of New England
BIDDEFORD, Maine -- University of New England women's basketball player Beth Suggs (Bath, Maine) has received three more postseason honors this week (Mar. 11-15) from the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA), New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA), and D3hoops.com.

On Thursday, the senior forward was named for honorable mention status on the WBCA Division III Coaches' All-America Team (full release), and on Friday was selected to the NEWBA first team (full release). Earlier in the week, Suggs garnered a second team nod to the D3hoops.com All-Northeast Region squad (full release).

Suggs had previously been named on the ECAC Division III New England second team, and the Maine (MWBCA) first team.

The Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Player of the Year and first team all-conference pick led UNE in scoring (14.6), rebounds (11.3), field goal percentage (.459), and free throws made (110) during the year. As Division III enters its championship weekend, Suggs ranks 20th in the country in rebounding and 9th in double-doubles (17 in 30 games).

She scored in double figures in all but four contests, and registered at least 10 points in each of the last 20 outings of the year. Suggs finished two points shy of a career-high (at the time) with 22 in a win over Bowdoin -- Big Blue's first after 17 consecutive losses to the Polar Bears. She established a new personal-best against Salve Regina in late January (26), and topped that with 27 in the regular-season finale at Western New England. Suggs went for 26 again versus Bridgewater State in the program's first-ever NCAA Championship win.

The senior captain finished her career with 1,138 points, having surpassed the 1,000-point barrier at Eastern Nazarene in early-February. She also totaled 918 rebounds over four seasons, highlighted by the fourth-best single-game performance (22 boards) in the season-opener against Wellesley.

The Nor'easters logged an impressive 94-24 overall record with Suggs on the team, including a 57-5 mark in CCC matchups. UNE enjoyed three NCAA tournament appearances, two league postseason titles, and an ECAC Championship crown in that time. Additionally, Big Blue recorded the longest win streak in program history by eight (20 games) during the 2012-13 campaign.
