Alvernia Handles Stevenson, 64-46 Yoh, Long, and Young Carry Crusaders

Reading, Pa. (Dec. 5, 2012) -The Alvernia University women's basketball (4-2, 2-1) team put together a solid 40 minute game to defeat Stevenson University (3-2, 1-2) by a 64-46 score Wednesday evening in Commonwealth Conference action at the Physical Education Center.

The Crusaders came out roaring in the first half with an early 9-0 run and they never looked back. Coach Calabria used an abundance of players during the game that all contributed to a ferocious and aggressive defense the Mustangs could not handle. By halftime, the Crusaders had a commanding 40-17 lead and were able to hold of the Mustangs with relative ease for the rest of the game.

The Crusaders were lead in the first half by senior Kayla Long (Manheim, Pa, Manheim Central) who dominated in the paint with both scoring and rebounds. She finished the night with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Also contributing big games for the Crusaders were sophomore Kaitlyn Yoh (Wernersville, Pa, Conrad Weiser) and junior Brittany Young(Columbus, NJ, North Burlington). They shared time at the point carving through the Mustang defense leading to layups for themselves or easy assists to open teammates. Yoh finished with 11 points and four assists. Young, the game's leading scorer finished her night with 14 points and one assist.

The Crusaders look to stay on the winning trail as they tip of again this Saturday, December 8th. The game is home against Lebanon Valley College, and begins at 1:00 p.m.
