Glenside, Pa. (Feb. 6, 2013) - Arcadia University (10-12, 3-12) scored a lead-changing layup with 31 seconds to play then forced a turnover to seal a 66-64 win over Alvernia University (8-14, 5-10) Wednesday evening in Commonwealth Conference women's basketball action at Alumni Gymnasium.

The Crusaders' late-season push for the playoffs took a hit with the loss.  Albright and Lycoming are tied for the fifth and final playoff spot just a game ahead of Alvernia.

Alvernia led by as many as 16 points in the fist half following an 11-0 run that put the Crusaders up 41-25 with 1:44 left in the half.

Arcadia was able to trim that to 10 points by the half, 43-33, then went to work on the deficit over the first seven minutes of the second half with a 17-4 run that put the hosts up three, 50-47.

From there it was a one-possession ballgame the rest of the way.  Alvernia took a 64-63 lead on a corner 3 from Chelsea Ebersole (Palmyra, Pa./Palmyra) with 55 seconds to play, but Dominique Hassinger knifed down the lane for the game-winner a possession later.

Alvernia called timout with 19 seconds left to set up a play, but the pass from sophomore point guard Kaitlyn Yoh (Wernersville, Pa./Conrad Weiser) was off the hands of senior center Kayla Long (Manheim, Pa./Manheim Central) with six seconds to play and the Knights hit 1-of-2 free throws for the final score.

Ebersole led the Crusaders with 21 points.  Yoh finished with 13 points, six rebounds, and six assists, and Long totaled eight points and a game-high 14 rebounds--one off her career best.  Arcadia had three players in double figures led by Valerie DiMuro who finished with 18 points and 11 rebounds.

Arcadia's win on Wednesday was its first over Alvernia in the 42nd game of the series.

The Crusaders look to get back on track Saturday when they host Widener at 1:00 p.m.
