GEORGETOWN, Texas - Katelyn Bartell got a big win in her final home game as a Pirate as Southwestern defeated Colorado College 77-54 on Sunday afternoon.
Southwestern was slow to start, committing five turnovers in the first five minutes of the game and trailed by one, 6-5.
With a strong press SU posted an 11-0 run over the next five minutes to lead by 10, 16-6, with ten minutes to play.
The remainder of the half Southwestern fended off runs by the Tigers and never lost the lead, taking a nine point lead into halftime, 38-29.
The Pirates got six points off fast breaks and 13 off turnovers in the half, accounting for a large chunk of their offense.
After a sluggish start to the half the Pirates turned up the heat and increased their lead to 14, 52-38, by the 15 minute mark.
SU continued to press on and watched their lead steadily grow to over 20 points until arriving at the 77-54 final.
Jordan Owens led the way offensively with a game-high 15 points. Chelsea Leeder added in 11 and Annie Bourne 10 with a game high 10 rebounds. Colorado's Courtney Tyus posted 14 points in the loss to lead the Tigers.
Southwestern closes out the regular season with an 18-7 overall record, 12-3 in the SCAC and enter the SCAC Conference Tournament as the #2 seed. They earn a first-round bye with their seeding and face with winner of the #3/#6 game on Saturday, February 23rd at 3 p.m. in Sherman, Texas.
