Lady Mavs Pull Away Late for Senior Day Win

BUFFALO, NY--The women's college basketball team pulled away late from Pitt-Greensburg to finish Senior Day with a (65-56) win and clinch the second seed in the AMCC Tournament.

Before the game the Mavericks honored seniors Brittany Rowland and Meghan Fahy for their years of playing at Medaille. After the celebration before hand, the Mavericks would celebrate again after the game earning themselves a first-round bye in the conference tournament with the win.

The first half was very close for both teams throughout the game. No team had a lead more than six throughout the opening half. The Mavericks struggled to convert their shots in the half, hitting on (13 of 36) which was good for (36.1%) from the floor. As for behind the arc, the Mavericks hit (25%) of their threes, hitting on (3 of 12) shots. Their defense did help keep the game close as Pitt-Greensburg only hit on (11 of 27) from the floor, good for (40.7%).

The Mavericks had greater control in the second half, especially early on. The Mavericks started the half on a 16-6 run, which gave them a 52-38 lead, the biggest in the game. The run was helped by Joelle Pollak who added (7) of her team high (23) points during the run.

The Mavericks would allow Pitt-Greensburg back in the game late as they pulled within one with 2:35 left to go. After Brittnee Perry made two free throws to give the Mavericks a three point lead, she would get a steal on the other end of the floor and convert the fast break layup to give the Mavericks a lead they wouldn't look back from.

Pollak finished the game with (23) points and (7) rebounds, including three on the offensive glass. Morgan Howe added (17) points and (10) rebounds along with Rowland who chipped in an additional (10) points and (7) assists.

The Lady Mavs (16-9. 14-4) will head to La Roche Friday to play an soon to be determined in the second round of the AMCC Tournament. They will found out who they play Tuesday after the first round games are complete.
