Purvis and Green Honored as Rams Defeat NYU-Poly

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's basketball team earned a 65-50 victory over NYU-Poly on senior night this evening in Farmingdale, N.Y. Two seniors, Siohban Purvis (Amityville, N.Y.) and Nikita Green (Roosevelt, N.Y.), were honored as they played in their final regular season home game.

Leading 19-13 in the first half, a 6-0 Farmingdale State (10-11, 8-5) run extended the Rams lead to 25-13 with 6:17 remaining. Farmingdale State increased the lead to 33-20 with under two minutes left in the half, before the Fighting Blue Jays (6-18, 2-11) scored the final four points to go into the break trailing 33-24. Junior guard Nicky Young (Queens, N.Y.) led the Rams with 10 points and five steals.

Farmingdale State opened up the second half on a 13-5 run to extend the lead to 17, 46-29. NYU-Poly would close within 11 at the 10:00 mark, but a Green 3-pointer and Lushanta Savadel (Bellport, N.Y.) layup and free-throw gave the Rams a 66-40 lead with 4:41 left to play. Farmingdale State held a double-digit lead throughout the remainder of the game to earn the Skyline win on senior night.

Young led Farmingdale State with 15 points, seven boards and seven steals, while sophomore guard Christina Merrill (Levittown, N.Y.) and Savadel each added 11 points. Green scored eight points and had a game-high nine assists and Purvis tallied 11 points and six rebounds.

Senior guard Shelby Bruns (Elko, Nev.) recorded a double-double with a game-high 17 points and 10 rebounds. Bruns is three points shy of 1,000 for her career at NYU-Poly.

Purvis is a 4-year player for the Rams with a career average of 3.1 points and 2.8 rebounds a game. She will be graduating in May with a degree in Criminal Justice after compiling an impressive 3.00 cumulative grade point average. Green, a 4-year player and All-Conference selection for Farmingdale State, has a career total of 298 assists and 241 steals.

Farmingdale State will close out the regular season as they travel to Mount Saint Mary on Saturday, February 16th at 1:00 p.m.
