WAYNE, N.J. – Junior guard Floriana Borova (Cresskill, N.J./Cresskill) poured in a career-high 36 points to help William Paterson (19-6, 12-4 NJAC) lock up a first-round bye for the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Women's Basketball Tournament with a 54-42 victory against visiting Ramapo (17-8, 10-6 NJAC).
The second-seeded Pioneers will host a semifinal game Wednesday, Feb. 20, at 7:00 p.m. against the winner of the first-round contest between third-seeded The College of New Jersey and sixth-seeded Richard Stockton to be played Saturday, Feb. 16, in Ewing.
Borova accounted for nearly 67 percent of WP's entire offensive output, including 14 points of an 18-7 burst that turned a 7-7 deadlock into a 25-11 Pioneer advantage with 7:36 remaining in the first half. William Paterson carried a 32-19 lead into the locker room thanks in large part to Borova's 23 points on 7-for-14 (.500) shooting. The Roadrunners never got closer than eight during the second period.
Borova was 11-for-25 (.440) from the field and 6-for-8 (.750) from three-point range, adding seven steals. Junior guard Kristine Jackiewicz (Quakertown, Pa./Quakertown) had 12 tallies and four steals, sophomore forward Ashley Marfo (Bergenfield, N.J./Bergenfield) pulled down 15 rebounds, and junior forward Dana Jeter (Hamilton, N.J./Steinert) finished with 12 boards and four steals in the regular-season finale for both teams.
Junior Micaela Moore led Ramapo with 10 points and 15 rebounds. Senior Faith Flannery chipped in nine tallies.
