Carleton holds off Macalester

The Scots trailed by 18 points with 5 ½ minutes to go in the opening period, but got back into the game with a late first-half rally capped off by a half-court shot on the buzzer by Kyanna Jones (Sr., Brooklyn Park, Minn. / Osseo).  Macalester took the lead eight minutes into the second stanza, but the visiting Carleton Knights held on for a 61-53 victory in St. Paul.

Carleton went 20-for-25 from the foul line to overcome a 44-33 Mac rebounding advantage.    CC also had a +6 turnover advantage.  Macalester led 28-20 in points in the paint.

Macalester, now 4-19 on the season and 3-17 in the MIAC, was led by Jones, who just missed a triple-double.  Jones finished with 17 points, eight rebounds and eight assists.

Veronika Jakubovie (Jr., Maple Grove, Minn.) posted a double-double, finishing with 13 points and 11 rebounds.  Emma Leyden (Jr., Berkeley, Calif. / Head-Royce) had eight points and six rebounds.

Four Knights reached double digits in scoring, led by Emma Purfeerst with 15 points and Skylar Tsutsui with 12.

The Scots play their final home game of the season Wednesday (Feb. 13) when they host Augsburg at 7:30 p.m.
