Greensboro Women Suffer 65-53 Road Setback at Christopher Newport

The Greensboro College women's basketball team (11-10 overall, 7-8 USA South) dropped a 65-53 (20-2 overall, 15-2 USA South) road decision at #23 nationally ranked Christopher Newport on Saturday afternoon.     

The Pride fell behind early as the Captains raced out to a 7-0 lead just over four minutes into the contest.  The deficit was pushed into double figures at 16-5 with 9:30 remaining in the half.

The Greensboro offense continued to struggle, going over nine minutes without a field goal as Christopher Newport built up a 28-5 lead.  The Pride would find some momentum down the stretch of the first half, but would go into the locker room down 39-18.

Greensboro hung tough in the second half, outscoring the Captains 35-26.  The Pride twice dwindled the margin to single figures at nine, with the last coming at 52-43 with 8:03 left, but could not get any closer in the 65-53 setback.

Bianca Richburg led all scorers on the day with 24 points to go along with 17 rebounds.  Chevena Pickard also added nine points on the day.  Overall, Greensboro outrebounded Christopher Newport 44-33.

The Pride shot 34.5% from the field compared to 38.5% for the Captains.

Greensboro will be back on the hard wood on Sunday at North Carolina Wesleyan.  Tip-off is set for 4 p.m.
