UMHB women outlast Schreiner

Belton, TX – University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's basketball team opened its Thursday evening contest against Schreiner University with a strong offensive presence, giving the Cru a competitive edge throughout the game and eventually the 52-42 win. The win improved UMHB to 6-15 on the season and 5-11 in American Southwest Conference action while the Mountaineers fell to 8-15 overall and 4-13 in league play.

UMHB opened the game with a 10-0 run and maintained a double-digit lead throughout the first half, going in with a 22-12 halftime lead. The Cru kept that lead throughout the second half, despite a strong offensive effort from the Mountaineers. Schreiner cut UMHB's lead to four, but was unable to catch the Cru. 

Jovana Miles led UMHB with 18 points and 13 rebounds while Taylor Tucker added 13 points and 13 boards. UMHB shot 36.7 percent on the game and 59.3 percent from the free-throw line. The Cru also forced 23 turnovers and recorded ten assists.
 
Kelsie Jackson was the Mountaineers' leading scorer with 11 points. Brooke Sanders added ten points while Colby Adolph brought down 10 rebounds. The Mountaineers forced 28 turnovers, recording 11 steals and four blocked shots.
 
The Cru will return to action for its Pink Zone game Saturday, February 9th in a 1 p.m. match against Texas Lutheran. UMHB will be playing that game in honor of the Kay Yow Cancer Fund, an organization dedicated to finding a cure for women's cancers.
