BUFFALO, NY--The Medaille College women's basketball team hosted D'Youville Wednesday night and after a fast paced first half, finished with a (73-44) victory over the Spartans.
The Mavericks started the game strong with a (12-2) run to start the game. During the run, the Mavericks were helped by Kayla Golden who added six points during the span. A few minutes later the Mavericks went on another run, this time a 8-0 run over the span of three minutes. During that span, Joelle Pollak added six of her (18) points during that span.
When the first half came to an end, the Mavericks led (40-18) and had held the Spartans to (27.3%) percent shooting on (6 of 22) from the floor. The Mavericks used their edge at the free throw line to help pad their lead in the first half. The Mavericks went to the free throw line 15 times in the half and connected on nine of them, good for (60.0%).
The second half was more of the same for the Mavericks. About midway through the second half, the Mavericks would go on a (7-0) run which put the game out of reach, giving them a 61-33 lead with 7:56 left in the game.
The Mavericks would close the game winning the second half by a score of (33-26). After a slow start shooting, the Mavericks finished the second half hitting (13 of 31) shots for (41.9%).
The Lady Mavericks were led by Pollak's (18) points and she also chipped in (10) rebounds. Brittnee Perry had another solid all-around game chipping in (12) points and pulling down (12) rebounds, including (9) on the offensive glass. Emily Brophy added (11) points in the game.
The Lady Mavs (14-8, 12-3) hit the road for a two game roadtrip as they take on the Franciscan Lady Barons Saturday at 1 p.m. in Steubenville, Ohio. The Lady Mavs return home February 16 to close out the regular season against Pitt-Greensburg.
