UNION, N.J. – Junior guard Floriana Borova (Cresskill, N.J./Cresskill) became the 21st member of the Pioneers' 1,000-point club as the William Paterson women's basketball team (17-6) defeated host Kean (5-16), 70-60, on Feb. 6.
Borova poured in 28 points against the Cougars, giving her 1,002 for her career to rank 21st in WP scoring history. Junior forward Dana Jeter (Hamilton, N.J./Steinert) had 12 tallies and 10 rebounds, and freshman guard Shakira Negron (Paterson, N.J./Immaculate Conception) finished with 11 points and four steals.
A Jessi Corredor (Bergenfield, N.J./Bergenfield) three-pointer at the buzzer handed William Paterson a 31-30 halftime lead, but Kean's edge grew to as many as six at 52-46 with 8:04 remaining. A 15-4 burst, including seven points off the hot hand of Borova, turned a 54-50 deficit into a 65-58 Pioneer edge with 3:53 left, and when two Cougar free throws made it a five-point game 20 seconds later, WP responded by scoring the final five points of the contest.
William Paterson will return to conference action Saturday, Feb. 9, at Rutgers-Camden at 1:00 p.m.
