Brooklyn Cruises Past Lehman, 57-36; Extends Win Streak to Seven

Bronx, NY --- The Brooklyn College Women's Basketball team defeated the Lightning of Lehman College in City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) action on Friday evening at The APEX at Lehman College by a score of 57-36. The Bulldogs are now riding a season-high seven game winning streak.

With the win, BC moves to 16-5 overall on the season and 10-2 in the CUNYAC; while Lehman drops to 3-18 overall on the year and 3-9 in conference play.

The Bulldogs began the game on a 9-0 run getting balanced scoring from Brittany Bowen, Charnelle Saint Laurent, Nicole Francomano and Tiffany Thompson. The Lightning would get their first bucket at the 16:57 mark of the first half.

Lehman would cut into its deficit and eventually tie the game at 15-15 on a three-pointer from Keonti Powell with 6:37 left before the halftime break. However, the Lightning would never take the lead, as Brooklyn closed out the half on an 11-0 run to take a 26-15 advantage into the locker room.

After Stephanie Miranda opened the second half with a jumper to cut Lehman's deficit back to single digits, 26-17, with 18:46 left in the game, Brooklyn would score nine straight points to go up 18, 35-17, at the 16:25 mark of the second stanza, essentially putting the game out of reach.

The Bulldogs would balloon their lead to as many as 25 on multiple occasions, before cruising to their 21-point victory, 57-36.

Aiding BC's win was the Bulldogs' stifling defense, which held the Lightning to just 22.8% (13-57) shooting from the field. Brooklyn also scored 31 points off of 33 Lehman turnovers, while racking up 18 steals.

Bowen finished the game with a team-high 12 points and three steals, while Vanessa D'Ambrosi added nine points, seven rebounds and four steals. Saint Laurent chipped in with eight points and a game-high five steals, while Thompson grabbed a game-best 11 rebounds, to go along with five points and five blocks.

For Lehman, Powell scored a game-high 16 points, to go with eight rebounds. Jennifer Navarro added 13 points and five rebounds, while Claudia Tejada registered five blocks.

Up next for Brooklyn will be a matchup against the Bearcats of Baruch College on Monday, February 4th as the West Quad Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:00 pm. The Bearcats are currently undefeated in CUNYAC play.
