BUFFALO, NY—Buffalo State (11-8/7-5) used a dominant second half to complete the regular-season sweep of visiting Oswego (14-5/8-4), claiming a 65-56 victory in a SUNYAC game tonight at the Sports Arena.
Shay Jackson (Syracuse/Henninger) and Ashley Wallace (Lockport/Starpoint) led the Bengals with 14 points apiece. Jackson added eight rebounds and three assists, while Wallace grabbed six boards. Olivia Luciani (Syracuse/E. Syracuse-Minoa) netted 13 points, Mariah Norris (Endicott/Endicott) had 11 points and seven rebounds, and Bianca Smiley (Amherst/Sweet Home) chipped in nine points.
Buffalo State started strong taking an early 20-15 lead, but Oswego outscored the Bengals 15-2 over the final 10-plus minutes of the opening half to hold a 30-22 advantage at the break. The Lakers scored the opening basket of the second frame before Buffalo State took control with a 15-0 run and never looked back.
The Bengals surrendered just 26 points in the second half and outrebounded the Lakers 39-28 for the game. After shooting 46-percent in the first half, Oswego hit just 31-percent in the second half as the Bengals increased the intensity on defense. Buffalo State shot 42-percent for the game and was 17 of 19 from the free-throw line. The Lakers were able to stay in the game by outscoring the Bengals 24-12 from 3-point range.
Buffalo State will host another conference game tomorrow against Cortland at 2 p.m.
