UMHB women fall to Hardin-Simmons

ABILENE, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's basketball team completed its six-game road streak Thursday night in Abilene, falling to the Hardin-Simmons Cowgirls 67-56. The loss drops UMHB to 5-15 overall and 4-11 in American Southwest Conference action. The Cowgirls improved to 12-8 on the season and 10-4 in conference play.
 
The Cowgirls opened the game with a 5-0 run, gaining an early lead on the Cru. UMHB fought back, leading the Cowgirls 17-16 before Hardin-Simmons used a pair of threes to regain the lead, ending the half with a 28-23 lead.  Hardin-Simmons opened the second half with a 7-0 run, sustaining that lead throughout the second half and securing the win.
 
Taylor Tucker led the Cru with 24 points and 15 rebounds.  Kourtney Bevers added eight points, Jovana Miles brought down 12 boards and Samara Williams recorded five steals for the Cru. UMHB out-rebounded the Cowgirls 48-33 in the game, forcing 17 turnovers and recording four blocked shots. The Cru shot 30 percent for the game and 76 percent from the free-throw line.
 
Alexis Popelar led three athletes in double-digits for the Cowgirls with 21 points. Jaclyn von der Heide added 19 points and Joanna Daniel added 15. The Cowgirls forced 19 turnovers and recorded 15 assists in the contest. Hardin-Simmons shot 42.6 percent from beyond the arc and 86.4 percent from the free-throw line.
 
The Cru will return to host Schreiner on Thursday, February 7th at 5:30 p.m. in the Mayborn Campus Center. UMHB's Pink Zone game will be played Saturday, February 9th against Texas Lutheran at 1 p.m.
