Medford, Mass.-Freshman forward Vandell Andrade (Providence, RI) corralled a career-high 15 rebounds to go along with four points as the Rhode Island College women's basketball team fell to Tufts University, 52-38, on Tuesday night in non-conference action.

After defeating the Jumbos handily, 62-41, a season ago, RIC (12-8) was held to just 24 percent shooting by a suffocating Tufts (21-0) defense, en route to their third loss in the last four games.

Tufts took a 13-5 lead early in the game, but RIC countered with the next five points to make it, 13-10, with nine minutes left in the frame. The Jumbos closed out the half on a 15-2 run to take a 28-14 lead into the intermission.

RIC came out of halftime and cut the advantage to single digits with an 8-2 run to open the half. Led by four points from Andrade, the run pulled them to within eight with 16:21 on the clock. The margin remained in that vicinity for the next five minutes, until Tufts regained control of the contest with an 11-0 stretch that featured five points from sophomore guard Kelsey Morehead (Foster City, CA) and four by sophomore forward Hayley Kanner (Scarsdale, NY).

A trey from junior guard Stephanie Prusko (Lincoln, RI) cut the Tufts lead to 13 points and forced a Jumbo timeout late in the game, but that would be as close as RIC would get to rallying from behind.

Tufts dished out 13 assists as a team and turned the ball over just 12 times, while the Anchorwomen coughed the ball up 20 times and handed out just four assists as a team.

The Anchorwomen shot 24 percent (12-for-50) on the day, including a 17 percent (4-for-24) mark in the first half. RIC also went 25 percent (3-for-12) from long range and 73 percent (8-for-11) from the free throw line.

The Jumbos shot 39 percent (22-for-57) from the floor, 18 percent (2-for-11) from three-point land and 67 percent (6-for-9) from the charity stripe.

Morehead led the Jumbos with 13 points and two steals, while graduate forward Kate Barnofsky (Huntington Station, NY) added nine points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals. Junior forward Ali Rocchi (Fairfield, CT) and Kanner each chipped in with eight points.

Prusko tallied a team-high seven points, while senior forward Courtney Burns (Rockland, MA) posted six points and four rebounds.

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will resume Little East Conference play at UMass Boston on Saturday, Feb. 2 (1 p.m.).
