UMHB women top Concordia in double overtime

Austin, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's basketball team stormed back from a second-half deficit and used clutch shots in both overtimes to pull off an 88-84 double overtime victory over Concordia Texas Tuesday night in Austin. The Cru women improve to 5-14 overall and 4-10 in American Southwest Conference play with the victory. The loss drops the Tornados to 12-8 overall and 9-5 in the ASC on the season.

Concordia Texas jumped to an early 12-5 lead before the Cru tied the game at 18 halfway through the first half. The Tornados were able to hold a lead until the final second of the first half, when Taylor Tucker punched in a layup with 9 seconds left. The second half saw both teams alternate leads, ending regulation at 69 apiece. UMHB was finally able to pull away from the Tornados using a 4-0 run in the second overtime and holding the Tornados to just three points that period.

Taylor Tucker led the Cru with 30 points and 17 rebounds in the contest. Jovana Miles put up 10 points, with Macy Moore adding nine. UMHB outshot the Tornados in all categories, shooting 39.4 percent on the game, 37.5 percent from beyond the arc and 73.3 percent from the free-throw line. 

Brianna Smith led the Tornados with 19 points, while DJ Vallier added 13. Vallier also brought down a team-high 12 rebounds. The Tornados out-rebounded the Cru 54-52 and forced 35 turnovers. Concordia shot 37.8 percent on the game, 16.7 percent from beyond the arc and 63.3 percent from the free-throw line.

The Cru will close out a six-game road trip with a 5:30 PM start at Hardin-Simmons University Thursday night in Abilene. UMHB will then close out the regular season with four straight home games.
