Chapman Uses Fast Start for Victory

ORANGE, CA – A quick start was enough for Chapman as they posted a 71-49 win over Caltech on Thursday evening in a women's basketball match-up.

Caltech couldn't overcome a slow start on Thursday evening. The Panthers raced out 17-4 lead with 13:52 left in the half. Caltech got their deficit down to 10 points a few minutes later but couldn't get within single digits. The team's settled in for much of the remaining portion of the half. Chapman took a 41-23 lead into the locker room.

Slowly the home team grew their lead to 20 points during the second half's early moments. Caltech couldn't put together a scoring run that allowed them to get back into the game as the Panthers grabbed the win.

Stephanie Wong produced her 14th double digit scoring effort of the season with a game high 17 points. It was also the sixth time this season the first-year played every minute of the game. Rachel Hess had her best scoring effort in seven games as she tallied a nine-point effort in 19 minutes on the floor.

Caltech's Ann Chen grabbed a career best and contest high nine rebounds.

Sandra Gao had a team best 12 points for the Panthers.

Caltech returns to the hardwood on Saturday evening when they host Cal Lutheran at 5 p.m. It is the final weekend game of the season for the Beavers as they face off against the defending SCIAC tournament champions.
