Gravel's Career Game Sparks Keuka Women's Basketball

Junior Danielle Gravel (Sidney, NY/Sidney) scored a career-high 30 points as the Keuka College women's basketball team won its seventh straight conference game, 72-56 over SUNY Cobleskill Sunday afternoon inside the Weed Physical Arts Center.

Gravel shot 61.5 percent from the floor (8-for-13) and was 10-for-13 on free throws as Keuka improved to 13-2, 10-1 in the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC).

Gravel also had 6 assists and 6 rebounds while junior Jessica Bandrowski (Center Moriches, NY/Center Moriches) added 12 points, 6 assists and 5 rebounds as the Storm improved to 8-0 at home this year.

Gravel and Bandrowski combined to shoot 7-for-12 on three-pointers while junior Casey Chamberlain (Perry, NY/Perry) snared a season-high 13 rebounds and added 9 points and 3 steals for the Green and Gold.

Gravel scored 18 first-half points while Chamberlain added seven first-half rebounds as the Storm took a 39-22 lead into intermission.

After missing her first three free throws, Gravel finished strong, sinking her final 10 at the free-throw line.

Keuka trailed 2-0 before scoring the next eight points as Gravel scored six points and Chamberlain added a lay-in for the Green and Gold.

Bandrowski and Gravel each converted three-pointers as the Storm's lead swelled to 16-4 with 14:26 left in the opening half, but Cobleskill answered with an 8-0 run, sparked by a pair of '3s' from Heidi Anderson, to pull within 16-12.

Keuka used its perimeter game to spark a critical 13-2 run, as Gravel and Bandrowski each knocked down '3s' and Gravel scored seven points during the run to stake the Storm to a 33-16 lead, the largest of the half.

A Gravel '3' pushed the lead to 51-34 before Cobleskill (5-12, 4-7) went on a 12-2 run to pull within 53-46.

Senior Mariah Mouzon (Elmira, NY/Elmira Free Academy) then snared an offensive rebound and made the lay-in, and Gravel buried another '3' for a 58-46 lead with 6:20 remaining.

Bandrowski capped a 14-4 run with another '3' to give the Storm a 67-50 lead with 3:10 remaining, and Keuka breezed to the win to complete the season sweep of Cobleskill. Keuka defeated Cobleskill 68-43 on Dec. 8, 2012.

Heidi Anderson scored 21 points with seven rebounds to lead Cobleskill, which shot 32.4 percent (23-for-71).

The Green and Gold travel to Morrisville State for a 5 p.m. game Wednesday night, before returning home to face Wilson College (Feb. 2) and Penn State-Abington (Feb. 3).
