La Roche Takes Over First Place in AMCC With Win Against Medaille

PITTSBURGH, PA – La Roche women's basketball (16-2, 11-1) reclaimed sole possession of first place in the AMCC Conference standings with a 77-61 win over arch rival Medaille (12-7, 10-2). The victory extends the Lady Redhawks win-streak to 4 games.

Medaille ran out to a 10-4 lead but Coach Gissendanner called a timeout to settle her team. Her team responded with an 8-0 run and took a 32-26 lead into halftime. Jessica Pitts led La Roche with 10 first half points and LaShauna Brothersregistered 9 points and 6 boards.

The Lady Redhawks went on another run after trading baskets early in the second half by running the floor. La Roche forced 9 steals and scored 19 points off turnovers to cruise in the final twenty minutes.

Coach Gissendanner credited the win to her team's ability to come out strong and play with energy.

 "We knew coming into this afternoon's game it was going to be a battle. We stayed tough and played with poise. Medaille is a great team and were ready from the tip.

Brothers registered her second double-double of the season with 14 points and 11 rebounds and Pitts added 20 points, 9 rebounds, and 6 assists. Amanda Garland played a solid all-around game with 12 points and Shataya White chipped in 11 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 steals.Leslie McPherson registered 9 points and 5 assists in the win.   

The Lady Redhawks scored 54 or their 77 points in the paint and outscored Medaille 39-9 off of turnovers and 28-8 on the fast break. La Roche forced 27 turnovers on 16 steals and gave the ball away just 9 times. They also outrebounded Medaille 43-38 including 22-10 on the offensive boards.

La Roche women's basketball will look for their fifth straight win when they travel to Mt. Aloysius College on Wednesday. The Lady Redhawks scored a school-record 101 points in their matchup earlier this season.
