Alpine, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's basketball team dominated the second half and used a solid defensive effort to post a 72-56 victory over Sul Ross State University Thursday night in Alpine. The Cru has back-to-back wins for the first time this season and improves to 4-13 overall and 3-9 in American Southwest Conference play with the win. The loss drops the Lobos to 1-17 overall and 0-12 in the ASC on the season.
Sul Ross would build early 3-0 and 8-5 leads before UMHB took control. The Cru took its first double-digit lead of the game at 30-20 with 3:08 left in the first half. UMHB pushed the lead to 15 before the Lobos closed with a run to cut it to 35-27 at halftime. The Cru opened the second half with a 16-4 run to open up a 20-point lead and led by as many as 24 points before cruising to the win.
Jovana Miles led UMHB with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Taylor Tucker added 14 points and eight boards and Macy Moore also reached double figures with 13 points. The Cru shot 41 percent from the field, went 19-24 from the free-throw line and out rebounded Sul Ross 52-41 in the game.
Asrelle Anderson led the Lobos with 18 points and Nicole Murdock added 11 points on 5-8 shooting. Alex Ramos pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds. Sul Ross shot just 34 percent from the field and went 5-23 from three-point range.
The Cru will close out the week with a 1:00 PM tip-off at Howard Payne University Saturday in Brownwood. UMHB will then play road games at Concordia Texas and Hardin-Simmons next week before returning home to close out the regular season with four straight home games.
