Brooklyn, N.Y. – The Lady Eagles of St. Joseph's College (10-8, 4-3 Skyline) dominated the Fighting Blue Jays from NYU-Polytechnic (5-11, 2-4 Skyline) in their 65-30 victory. The win ended St. Joseph's three-game losing streak and propelled them into the fourth and final Skyline Cnoference Tournament spot - for the time being.
The first half was a close battle between the two teams. NYU-Poly held only two leads in the game, both within the first three minutes of the game. A three-pointer by Christina Cohen (Smithtown, N.Y. / Smithtown East) gave the Eagles the lead with 16:13 left and never relinquished it for the rest of the game. St. Joseph's largest lead of the half was seven which came off a jumper by Amanda Bender (East Northport, N.Y. / Northport) at 6:32. A three-pointer by Danielle Hamlin (Centereach, N.Y. / Centereach) closed out the half with the Eagles up 27-22.
The St. Joseph's defense locked down the Fighting Blue Jay's offense, holding them to just eight points in the entire second half. NYU-Poly shot just 9.1% on 3-of-33 shooting from the floor in the half. Amanda Bender's 15 second half points alone outscored the entire NYU-Poly team. The Lady Eagles shot an impressive 60% from the floor in the half.
Bender led all scorers with 17 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. Christina Cohen added 14 points and Laura Cohen (Smithtown, N.Y. / Smithtown East) scored 13. Danielle Hamlin fell one rebound shy of a double-double, but contributed 10 points in the win.
Next up for the Lady Eagles is a home match-up against conference opponent Mount Saint Mary (10-7, 7-1 Skyline) tomorrow night at 7:00 p.m. in the Danzi Center. The Knights defeated the Eagles earlier in the season by a slim margin of 51-49.
