Jessica
Duleba recorded a double-double with 27 points and 11
rebounds to lead the Baruch College Bearcats to a 62-53
non-conference road win against Richard Stockton College on Monday
afternoon at the Jersey Shore in Pomona, New Jersey.
The victory improves the team to a school best 15-1 record, while
the Ospreys from the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) drop to 9-7.
The visiting Bearcats trailed by a point at halftime (28-27), but
Francess
Henry scored a layup at the start of the second half for
a 29-28 advantage. The Bearcats would never relinquish that
advantage the rest of the game.
The advantage would grow to as much as 42-34 with 11:24 remaining,
but the Ospreys rallied by scoring six straight points to get as
close as 42-40.
Alex Nardoza would later connect on a three-point play to get the
Ospreys even closer at 44-43, but Duleba nailed a momentum-busting
3-pointer on the next possession to go back up, 47-43, with 7:12
left.
The Bearcats managed to control the action the rest of the way and
took a 10-point lead (45-55) on a jumper by Iyana Abrams with four
minutes left. That was enough to walk away with the road
victory.
The Bearcats out-rebounded the Ospreys by a 49-35 advantage with
Sheridan Taylor (16) and Duleba (11) leading the way in the
important defensive category.
Henry (3 blocks) and Abrams (5 assists) scored 11 points each in
the 15th victory of the season.
Nardoza led the home team Ospreys with 14 points, six assists and
three steals.
Baruch will return to action on Wednesday, January 23, with a 5:30
pm CUNYAC home contest against rival Hunter College Hawks.
