Women's Basketball Rains Three-Pointers in Win Over Del Val

PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Manhattanville women's basketball team pulled off its first Freedom Conference victory of the season over the Delaware Valley Aggies by the score of 74-67 on Wednesday evening at Kennedy Gym. Senior Taylor Wilson (Pearl River, N.Y./Pearl River) and sophomore Bri Pabon (Newington, Conn./Newington) led Manhattanville as they combined for 44 of the 74 points.
 
Together Wilson and Pabon sank seven three-point baskets for 21 of their 44 points. In addition to the sharpshooting, sophomore Alyson Caiazzo (Brooklyn, N.Y/St. Saviour) also notched yet another double-double on the season as she had 12 points and picked up 13 boards to finish the game.
 
The Valiants jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead as sophomore Shayna Robinson (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) hit a jumper, followed by a three-pointer from Wilson. After the Aggies tied the score at five, Wilson sank another three-pointer to put the Valiants up 8-5. Wilson continued her dominant stretch of the game as she amassed 14 of Manhattanville's first 18 points to take an 18-13 lead.
 
The Valiants then stretched a 10-2 run to open a 13-point lead, the largest of the half. Delaware Valley pulled within nine on three separate occasions but it was Manhattanville to head into the halftime break with a 12-point edge.
 
After halftime, Delaware Valley jumped out with a quick 9-2 run, but Pabon but an end to the rally with a three-pointer with 14:36 to go. On the next possession, Pabon drained another from downtown to put Manhattanville back up by 11.
 
The lead hovered around 10 in favor of the Valiants throughout much of the second half but the Aggies refused to turn over and pulled within four after Agatha Drozd hit a three-pointer with 3:02 to go to at 65:61.
 
Manhattanville closed out the game on a 9-5 run, and held off the surging Aggies for the 74-67 victory.
 
In the end, the Valiants finished the game shooting 40.7% but were still able to win as Delaware Valley shot 46.2%. The biggest difference in the game was shooting from beyond the arc, as the Valiants were 8-for-13 while the Aggies went 4-for-18. Rebounds were even at 40 for each side.
 
The Valiants (8-7, 1-4 Freedom) will take to the road again as they head back to Wilkes-Barre, Pa. for a second straight Saturday at 1:00 p.m. to take on the King's Monarchs. Delaware Valley (6-10, 0-5 Freedom) returns home for a Saturday contest against the Misericordia Cougars also at 1:00 p.m.
