NEW YORK, NY – The Blue Angels continued their hot play to begin 2013 as CNR posted a wire-to-wire 54-21 road victory today over Cooper Union to improve to 2-0 in the new year.
The Blue Angels scored the game's first 16 points, with 10 coming from Alyssa Pechin, to claim a 16-0 advantage over the first six-plus minutes of action. The lead did not fall below 14 points and climbed to as high as 22 points in the first half following a Laquinta Stuart jumper with 27 seconds left in the half to give the Blue Angels a 30-8 lead at the break.
In the second half, the lead reached 30 following five straight points Ja'Nasha King and swelled to as many 37 twice in the closing minutes.
Jasmine Brandon led all scorers with 17 points on 8-9 shooting, adding six rebounds in 16 minutes of action as 11 Blue Angels played 10 or more minutes in the contest. Pechin added a team-high four steals to her 10 points. Elizabeth Johnston and Christine Biskup each pulled down a game-high eight rebounds.
CNR dominated the glass, posting a 49-29 advantage in rebounds.
The Blue Angels return home to host New Jersey City University on Monday, January 21. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
