Blue Devils fall into large hole early, drop 86-47 decision to Whitewater

WHITEWATER (January 19, 2013) - The Blue Devils' struggles continued, Saturday evening, as they lost their fourth straight game, an 86-47 blowout loss to UW-Whitewater at Kachel Gymnasium.

The Warhawks (13-5, 7-2 WIAC) laid on the points rapidly and consistently in a game that was a blowout before ten minutes came off the clock. Whitewater had a 29-7 lead midway through the first half and never looked back as they steamrolled the Blue Devils (8-10, 2-7 WIAC) from start to finish.

Four minutes into the game, Whitewater was out to a 13-2 lead. Ten minutes later, their lead was up to 33, and they extended it to as much as 35 before Stout cut it back to 52-19 at halftime. Stout shot just 27 percent from the field in the half as they watched Whitewater shoot 57 percent. The Blue Devils had 21 turnovers in the half and went 1-for-10 from beyond the arc.

The second half was much of the same for both teams. Stout improved their shooting percentage from 27 to 30 while Whitewater's dropped from 57 to 55. The Warhawks built their lead to as much as 45 on two separate occasions, and led by more than 30 for the entire half.

Five Warhawks scored in double digits, with Mary Merg leading the group with 13 points. Katelynne Folkers (So, Fall Creek) led the Blue Devils with 10 points and Shelby Sterba (So, Tony) led the team with five points.

Stout returns home from their winless road trip to host UW-River Falls, Wednesday, Jan. 23, at 7 p.m.
