OSWEGO, N.Y. – Meagan Stover (Sr., Lake George, N.Y.) scored a career-high 26 points as the Oswego State women's basketball team (12-2, 6-1 SUNYAC) defeated Brockport (5-10, 2-6 SUNYAC), 60-50, Friday night at Max Ziel Gymnasium.

Oswego State looked to establish its inside presence early in the first half as it scored the first six points of the contest in the paint.  Brockport's intensity on the defensive end kept them in contention as the Laker lead was cut to one with only 3:00 remaining in the half.  The Lakers followed with a modest 6-0 run, including four Stover free throws, to go into the break with a 34-27 advantage.

Although Oswego State led by seven at the half, both teams had nearly identical first half statistics, shooting roughly 43 percent from the field.

Oswego State extended the lead early in the second half to 11, before Brockport's defense held the Lakers scoreless for nearly 5 minutes.  An Evelyn Josbena (Sr., Solvay, N.Y.) jumper at 16:02 was the last points Oswego State would score until nearly the 11-minute mark of the second half when a Stover layup broke the scoreless drought.  Stover went on to score nine consecutive points for her squad to stretch the Laker lead to 51-40 with 8:16 left in the stanza.

Oswego State's defense lived up to its reputation as it held Brockport to 33 percent shooting from the floor and forced 21 turnovers.

Kari Kipper (Sr., Loudonville, N.Y.) chipped in with 11 points on 5-for-10 shooting, while Josbena ripped down 11 rebounds.  Phoebe Byrnes had a strong game for Brockport scoring 16 points.

Oswego State is on the road to face Geneseo (10-4, 6-2 SUNYAC) in a pivotal conference matchup tomorrow at 6 p.m.  The Lakers currently hold a half-game lead over Geneseo in the SUNYAC standings.
