STEUBENVILLE, OH – In their first trip to Ohio in several years the Caltech women's basketball team came up short against Franciscan 69-50 on Monday evening.
The Beavers fought an uphill battle all game. After getting off to a slow start and allowing the Barons jump out to an 8-0 lead, Caltech fought back. A Rachel Hess jumper cut and their deficit down to just four points at 16-12 with 7:58 left in the frame. However the home squad finished the half strong.
Franciscan finished the period on a 16-4 scoring spurt to take a 32-18 lead at intermission.
Caltech had trouble finding their rhythm in the final stanza. They got their deficit down to 12 points on two occasions but couldn't pull any closer. Franciscan slowly pulled away to claim the win.
"We just were out of synch and couldn't quite find a way to get back on track," head coach Sandra Marbut said. "We made a few surges at various times."
Marlyn Moore had her best game of the season. The junior came off the bench to score a 10 points. Stephanie Wong led the scoring drive once again for the Beavers by tallying 14.
"Marlyn hit some big shot and hard a solid outing. She really focused on playing her game and doing what she does well," Marbut said.
