GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. – Cabrini handed Gwynedd-Mercy its first conference loss of the season as the Cavaliers posted an 82-55 win over the Griffins Wednesday night at the Griffin Complex.

Gwynedd had a pair of players scoring 13 points apiece in sophomores Natasha Matthews and Shea Wassel respectively.

Brittany Sandone scored 20 points and teammate Amber Keys added 19 off the bench as the Cavs had 24 of their 50 rebounds were on the offensive side, which led to 28 second-chance points. Keys grabbed nine while Annie Rivituso snared six. Rivituso added 16 points.

The Griffins (10-6, 6-1 CSAC) shot just 32% (9-of-21) in the first half. A slew of three-straight turnovers in as many possessions would turn a one-point deficit into an eight-point hole early on. Sandone would start a succession of 10-straight points to close the half, with the final bucket just beating the buzzer, to give Cabrini a 47-27 lead at the break.

Gwynedd tried to answer to start the second with three buckets in a row to cut the lead to 14. The Cavaliers (12-3, 7-0 CSAC) countered with three in a row of their own to restore the lead in which they would keep the rest of the way.

Wassel also pulled down a team-high nine rebounds and had three blocks.

For the game, GM was just under 40% from the floor, but only 1-of-14 from downtown.
