The Baruch College Bearcats saw a valiant second-half comeback fall short to suffer their first defeat, 59-54, in a non-conference contest against DeSales University on Monday night in Center Valley, Pa.

The Bearcats dug themselves into a hole during the first half
shooting only 23.4 percent (9-of-37), including 0-for-10 from
3-point range to trail 31-19 at halftime.
The start of the second half saw DeSales increase their lead to 15
points (36-21) with 17:49 left.
The Bearcats finally came alive after a timeout and scored the
next 16 points to lead 37-36 with 10:11 remaining. DeSales missed
15 straight baskets and struggled against defensive pressure to
enable the Bearcats to turn a rout into an exciting contest.
The two teams battled and were tied at 42 with 6:49 left before
DeSales (10-5) scored 11 of the next 13 points to go back on top,
53-44, with under five minutes remaining.
The Bearcats managed to cut the deficit to two points (55-53) on a
layup by Jasmine
Smarr with 1:08 left, but could not get any closer
in the final minute to suffer their first regular season
defeat.
Overall, the visiting Bearcats shot 33.3 percent (23-for-69) and
finished 1-for-20 from 3-point range.
DeSales also shot poorly at 29.9 percent (20-for-67), but used
their defense to force 23 turnovers, which in the end made the
biggest difference in the stats sheet.
Jessica
Duleba led the Bearcats (12-1) with 16 points, nine
rebounds and three assists. Sheridan
Taylor had a double-double of 15 points and 15 rebounds.
Smarr finished with 10 points and two steals.
Sondrine Govas led DeSales (10-5) with a double-double of 29
points, 14 rebounds and six steals.
Baruch will resume its CUNYAC schedule on Wednesday, January 16,
with a 5:30 pm home contest against Lehman College.
