Brooklyn Improves To 9-4 With 68-55 Win Over John Jay

Brooklyn, NY---The Brooklyn College Women's Basketball Team opened up a 10-0 lead to start the game and never looked back, defeating visiting John Jay, 68-55 on Saturday afternoon. The Bulldogs improve to 9-4, 4-2 CUNYAC, with the win, while the Bloodhounds fall to 7-7, 5-2.

BC came out on fire to start play, as senior center Tiffany Thompson scored the games first eight points, followed by a Vanessa D'Ambrosi basket, to push the lead to 10-0. John Jay answered with a Victoria Story jumper, but Brooklyn's Brittany Bowen came right back with a three-pionter to up the early lead to 11.

The Bulldogs took their biggest lead of the half, at the 9:57 mark, as a Charnelle Saint Laurent three-pointer pushed the home team's advantage to 16, 24-8. The Bloodhounds would fight back to cut the deficit to nine, 35-26, as Simone Victor came off the bench to hit two tough three-pointers.

John Jay started the second half with an 8-3 run, to cut the gap to four, but that would be as close as they would get, as Brooklyn immediately countered with a back-breaking, 18-2 run, that would put the visitors out of reach and clinch the team's fourth conference with of the season.

"Today's game was big for us," said BC Head Coach Alex Lang. "We know we have the ability to be one of the top teams in the conference and we showed it today."

Bowen led Brooklyn with 15 points, eight rebounds and seven steals, while Thompson scored 13 points. Trina Payne came of the Bulldog bench to dish out a game-high five assists.

Up next for Brooklyn will be NJAC power Rutgers Newark, a team the Bulldogs faced twice a year ago. The game will be at the West Quad Center at 7 pm, on Monday, January 14th.
