Medaille Women Cruise past Franciscan for Fourth Straight Win

BUFFALO, NY - The Medaille College women's basketball team was dominant in all facets of the game as they cruised to an (82-40) victory on their home floor against Franciscan University this afternoon.  The win is the fourth straight for the Lady Mavs.

The Lady Mavs received a balanced effort in all phases of the game as all nine players that hit the floor, found their way into the scoring ledger.  Leading the way for Medaille was junior Joelle Pollak who led all scorers with (20) points on (8 of 15) shooting from the floor.  She knocked three shots from behind the arc while also dishing out (5) assists in the win.

The Medaille offense was directed efficiently from the point as Emily Brophy matched a career high with a game best (10) assists.  She also chipped in with (6) points and (6) boards while committing just two turnovers.  As a team Medaille did a nice job of taking care of the ball as they finished the game with (11) turnovers while forcing their opponent into (19).  The Lady Mavs turned the Franciscan miscues into (26) points on the other end of the floor while managing to keep the Barons from scoring any points off of their turnovers.

As a team Medaille knocked down (35 of 69) shots for a (50.7%) shooting afternoon.  They also posted (28) assists on (35) made field goals.  Senior Brittney Rowland connected on (6 of 10) from the floor for a (13) point day, while managing to gather in (6) boards and dish out (4) assists.  Junior Tara Caples came off the bench to score a dozen points and matched a game high with (9) rebounds.  While rookie Brittnee Perry continued her strong play with (10) points, (4) rebounds, and a pair of assists while not turning the ball over at all.

The Lady Mavs had a (24) point lead late in the first half, however, the Barons were able to cut that down to fifteen at the break as Medaille headed into intermission with a (40-25) lead.  Any hopes of a second half comeback were squashed by the Lady Mavs as they came out of the locker room firing on all cylinders as they stretched their lead to (30) points in a matter of minutes, essentially putting the game out of reach.

The win pushes their overall record to (9-5) and they improve to (7-1) in conference play.  They will get right back at it as they host AMCC foe Pitt-Bradford on Monday (1/14) at 6:00pm ion the Sullivan Center.
