Late Three's Lead Sage Past the Rams

Farmingdale, N.Y. - Farmingdale State fell to The Sage Colleges tonight, 59-48, in Skyline women's basketball action in Farmingdale, N.Y. Gators junior guard Erica Houle (Latham, N.Y.) knocked down three straight shots from downtown over the last five minutes to secure the comeback victory.

The Rams (4-6, 2-1) held a 26-22 advantage at the halftime break, before extending the lead to 33-22 with 18:32 left to play. A 9-2 run by the Gators (5-5, 3-1) over the next five minutes, made the score 35-31.

With under ten minutes remaining, Sage trailed by one before Houle knocked down a three-pointer to give her team their first lead of the night, 42-40. Farmingdale responded with a three-pointer by senior guard Nikita Green (Roosevelt, N.Y.) and a layup by freshman forward Amanda Masson (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) to take back the lead, 45-42.

After two successful Sage free throws, freshman forward Sara Tironi (Cambridge, N.Y.) put the Gators back on top 46-45 with a layup at 6:28. A minute later, Houle knocked down the three game-changing shots to give her team a 57-47 lead with 3:30 on the clock. Sage held the Rams to one point over the final minutes to secure the win.

The Rams were led by junior guard Nicky Young (Queens, N.Y.) who had 17 points, while Green added 12 points.

Houle scored a team-high 18 points for Sage, including 6-of-11 from long range. Tironi finished with 14 points, while sophomore guard Lea McClain (Schenectady, N.Y.) added 10 points.

Farmingdale State will next host Mount Saint Mary on Monday, January 14th at 6:00 p.m.
