NEWBURGH, N.Y. – Mount Saint Mary College put a stop to a four-game losing streak with a 51-49 Skyline Conference victory over visiting St. Joseph's College on Wednesday evening.  The Knights improve to 6-7 overall (3-1 Skyline), while the Golden Eagles fall to 8-5 overall (2-1 Skyline).

A tie game at the break, the entire second half would be played within a four-point margin on either side of the scoreboard.  With the score tied at 41 as the clock dipped under eight minutes remaining, St. Joseph's junior Danielle Hamlin (Centereach, N.Y.) drained a three-pointer to give the Golden Eagles their biggest lead of the night.  It would be short-lived, however, as Mount senior Charneice McCullough (Wyandanch, N.Y.) quickly answered with a three-pointer to tie the game at 44.

Trailing by one, St. Joseph's senior Amanda Bender (East Northport, N.Y.) put the Golden Eagles back on top with a bucket at the 4:07 mark.  A scoreless drought of more than two minutes ensued until Bender's fifth foul of the evening sent Mount sophomore Rottisha Lewis (Norwalk, Conn.) to the line.  Lewis sunk both attempts to make it 48-47, Knights.

On the ensuing possession, Lewis came away with a steal and went the length of the floor for a fast break layup to push the lead to three.  Sophomore Amanda Smith (Dayton, Ohio) generated a steal on the next St. Joseph's possession and was fouled on her fast break attempt.  She made one-of-two to make it 51-47 with 1:19 remaining.

The teams traded empty trips and with eleven seconds remaining, St. Joseph's junior Christina Cohen (Smithtown, N.Y.) made a bucket in the paint to cut the deficit to two.  The Mount missed the front end of back-to-back one-and-ones, sending the ball back to the Golden Eagles with four seconds remaining.  A three-point heave from Cohen at the buzzer was off the mark and the Knights emerged with the win.

Mount junior Rachel Perrone (Poughquag, N.Y.) led the Mount with 16 points and completed a double-double with 10 rebounds.  Lewis fell just shy of a triple-double, tallying 11 points, 13 boards, and eight steals.  Smith added six points, five rebounds, and four assists.

Bender totaled a game-high 17 points for the Golden Eagles, while Hamlin notched a double-double with 13 points and 11 boards.  Junior Laura Cohen (Smithtown, N.Y.) pitched in with 11 points.

The Knights return to action on Saturday with a home game against NYU-Poly.  The contest is set for a 1:00 p.m. start in the Kaplan Center.
