Seahawk Women's Basketball Hits Century Mark in Win

St. Mary's City, Md. – Six players scored in double digits for the St. Mary's College of Maryland women's basketball team in their 100-20 non-conference victory over the visiting Notre Dame of Maryland University Gators Wednesday night.

St. Mary's (7-6) posted several season-highs in tonight's win – points scored, points allowed, field goals made (41), field goals attempted (114), rebounds (77), offensive rebounds (49), and steals (23).  Several Seahawk players recorded career performances along the way as well. 

Centers Maddie Hook (Chevy Chase, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase) and Myeisha Wallace (West River, Md./Southern Senior) paced the Seahawks with their first career double-doubles.  Hook notched career-highs of 17 points and 10 rebounds while Wallace tallied a career-high 13 points and season-best 12 boards.

Senior guard Pui Sham (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) added 14 points while sophomore guard Matti Vagnoni (Chevy Chase, Md./Stone Ridge School) contributed career-highs of 13 points, six caroms, five assists, five steals, and three three-point field goals made.

Junior Bridget Wilkins (Washington, D.C./Washington Waldorf School) led the Seahawks' dominance on the glass with a career-high 14 rebounds while chipping career-bests of five assists and two steals.  Junior forward Marché Pearson (Baltimore, Md./Laurel) netted 11 points and career-high four steals while senior forward Taylor Petrisko (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) had 10 points.

Fifty-two of the Seahawks' points tonight were scored in the paint while 46 came off of 47 Gator miscues, 34 were second chance points and 18 resulted from fast break opportunities.  St. Mary's opened up with a 10-0 run before Notre Dame (1-10) made its first field goal of the game at 15:34.  The Seahawks closed out the first half on a 37-6 run to own a 47-8 halftime advantage.

Hook paced all players with 11 first-half points while Pruden hauled in eight boards as the Seahawks posted a 43-21 rebounding margin in the first 20 minutes.  The Gators committed 33 first-half turnovers which led to 30 points for St. Mary's.

First-year guard Lauren Santi (Accokeek, Md./Elizabeth Ann Seton) was Notre Dame's leading scorer with 10 points while first-year guard Kamelya Medina (Albuquerque, N.M.) pulled down a team-best eight caroms.

St. Mary's will look to keep its win streak alive Saturday, January 12 when the Seahawks travel to Dover, Delaware to take on Wesley College in Capital Athletic Conference action at 2:00 p.m.
