READING, Pa.--The Hood College women's basketball team (4-9, 2-4 Commonwealth) came up on the short end of a 73-52 Commonwealth Conference decision at Albright College (7-7, 3-4 Commonwealth) Wednesday night at the Bollman Center.
Briana Lee and Verkia Smith tied for team-high scoring honors with 11 points apiece. That scoring mark was a season-high for Smith, who hit 4-of-6 from the field and 2-of-3 from distance. Olivia Hosch also notched a season-high with seven points and made her first collegiate start. Rachel Wiley finished with five points and a team-high five rebounds and Dyanna Prater chipped in six points, all in the second half, and four assists.
Albright broke open a three-point game with an 18-0 run over nearly eight minutes in the first half to go up 37-16 with just under six minutes to go before the break. Hood scored the final seven points of the stanza and trailed 43-26 at intermission. However, Hood was unable to make a significant dent in the Lion lead in the second half.
Prater moved up a spot in two statistical categories in Hood's record book. She is third all-time in career assists with 202 and third in career assists with 301. Her six points in tonight's game brought her career total to 952, just 48 away from becoming the ninth Blazer to reach the 1,000-point plateau. Additionally, Emily Maerz drained her 98th career three-pointer, and needs just two more to become the sixth Hood player with 100 triples all-time.
Four Albright players reached double figures in scoring, led by Kelecia Harris' game-high 15.
Hood returns home to host Widener University Saturday at 1 p.m. in another Commonwealth contest at BB&T Arena.
