JAQUY LANOT NAMED TO ALL TOURNEY TEAM, BERKELEY (NY) WINS

Brooklyn, NY- The Medgar Evers College Women's Basketball team fell to the Yeshiva University Maccabees 79-27 in the Consolation Game of the 14th Annual Dr. Betty Shabazz Tournament. The Maccabees improved to 3-4 Overall while Medgar Evers College falls to 0-9 Overall.

The Cougars started off the game with a 6-0 run. After a 30 second timeout by Yeshiva, they went on a 6-0 run of their own. Medgar Evers College would tie the game at 8, but Yeshiva would regain the lead and not look back. Two bright notes was 18pts was the most the Cougars scored in a half this season and 27pts is the most they have scored for a game. They are making great improvements.

In the loss, Medgar Evers College was led by Freshman Guard Jaquy Lanot. Lanot had a career game, scoring 15pts (season high), grabbing 9 rebounds, added 3 assists, 3 blocks, and a steal. Her efforts named to the All Tournament Team. 

Yeshiva in the win was led by Haley David with 21pts. Three other players scored in double digits including Rebecca Yoshor. After her 23pts and 27 rebounds the night before, she simmered down to only scoring 12pts and grabbing 14 rebounds. Her efforts were also good enough to be named to the All Tournament Team.

In the Championship Game, the Berkeley College of New York repeated as Champions, as they beat the College of New Rochelle Blue Angels 56-41.

The Knights were led by Aiyesha Brown with 23pts and Tierra Williams with 12pts. Milan Germany nearly had a triple double, scoring 5pts, grabbing 10 rebounds and dishing out 9 assists. Both Brown and Germany were named to the All Tournament Team with Germany taking home MVP of the Tournament.

The Blue Angels were led by Jasmin Brandon with 16pts and grabbed 17 rebounds. Brandon was named to the All Tournament Team.

Medgar Evers College will be back in action on Friday Dec.7, 2012 when they travel to Manhattan, and take on the Hunter College Hawks. Game time is at 5:30pm.
