WENHAM, Mass. -- The University of New England Nor'easters scored the first 14 points of the contest and cruised the rest of the way for a 70-39 Commonwealth Coast Conference women's basketball win over Gordon College Tuesday (Jan. 8) evening at the Bennett Center.

With the victory, the Nor'easters improve to 7-4 on the season and remain unbeaten in CCC play at 4-0. Gordon slips to 2-10 and is winless in five conference outings. UNE has now won the last 11 meetings between the two foes.

Reigning CCC Player of the Week Kelly Coleman tallied 16 points in just 20 minutes of playing time to pace the Nor'easters. Rookie Lauren Hayden notched a career high with 13 points on 5-for-7 shooting, while Beth Suggs chipped in 12 points and grabbed a team-best seven rebounds. Meghan Gribbin finished with seven points, five steals and four assists in limited action.

For Gordon, Brooke Kratche had 16 points and seven boards, and Lauren Kranyak contributed 11 points to go with six caroms.

UNE held the Fighting Scots scoreless over the initial 6:14 of the contest as it opened up a 14-0 advantage. After a bucket by Abby Bandi got the hosts on the scoreboard, Big Blue tallied the next 10 points to establish a commanding 24-2 cushion. The Nor'easters would go on to a 35-10 lead at the break.

UNE's lead reached 37 twice in the second frame, as the Nor'easters substituted liberally for much of the tilt. Twelve players reached double digits in playing time, with no one in a UNE uniform logging more than 22 minutes of action.

For the game, Big Blue made half (29 of 58) of its field goal attempts while limiting Gordon to 30.8 percent (16 of 52) accuracy. The Nor'easters also held a 40-29 advantage in the rebounding department and forced 26 Fighting Scot turnovers.

UNE is back at it Thursday evening with a 5:30 p.m. contest at Curry College.
