ROSEMONT (PA) – Ashley Montecchio scored 40 points as Rosemont College snapped Delaware Valley College's four-game winning streak with a 94-80, non-conference victory.
The setback was the first in nearly a month for the Aggies as they fell to 6-7 on the season. It was their last non-conference game on the schedule as Freedom action resumes on Wednesday when they host Wilkes University. The win improved Rosemont to 7-4.
Montecchio was just 9-for-26 from the field (2-for-6 from 3-point land), but she got to the foul line 23 times and made 20 of her attempts. In fact, she sank more free throws than Delaware Valley had attempts (13-for-16). Montecchio also had 13 rebounds, four blocks and three steals.
The Ravens took control of the game midway through the first half and increased their advantage to as many as 19 before taking a 45-27 lead into the intermission. They still led by 17 at the halfway point of the second stanza when the Aggies went on a 13-3 run, including a pair of trey from Kelsey Kilpatrick and five points from Eireann Anastasi, to make it a 68-61 contest with 7:37 remaining.
Delaware Valley was still down seven a minute later when Rosemont scored seven straight, including five of Montecchio's 26 second-half points, to put the game away.
As a team, the Ravens shot 31-for-39 from the foul line and held a 52-40 advantage on the boards, including 25 offensive rebounds. Liz Coyne (20 points, 10 rebounds) and Nymira Nelson (16 points, 11 rebounds) joined Montecchio on the double-double list.
Brenna Coll paced the Aggies with 23 points, including 14 in the second half. Emily Soper added 22 points, eight rebounds and five blocks while Kilpatrick came off the bench to sink five 3-pointers (5-for-8) and finish with 15 points.
