William Paterson Women’s Basketball Distances Itself from NJCU, 64-49

JERSEY CITY, N.J. – William Paterson improved to 9-4 overall and 4-2 in New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) women's basketball play, pulling away from host New Jersey City (3-10, 1-5 NJAC) for a 64-49 victory Jan. 5.

 

Junior guard Floriana Borova (Cresskill, N.J./Cresskill) led the Pioneers with 14 points, while freshman guard Brittany Harden (Millville, N.J./Sacred Heart) contributed 13 tallies.  Junior guard Kristine Jackiewicz (Quakertown, Pa./Quakertown) posted nine points, and tied with sophomore forward Ashley Marfo (Bergenfield, N.J./Bergenfield) for team-high rebounding honors with nine.

 

WP steadily built a 28-16 lead by halftime, but the Gothic Knights scored the first 10 points of the second period to get within two at 28-26 at the 16:34 mark.  Still holding a two-point advantage three minutes later (34-32, 13:43), freshman guard Jessi Corredor (Bergenfield, N.J./Bergenfield) ignited a 17-2 run with her layup and William Paterson quickly owned a 51-34 edge with 7:52 on the clock. 

 

Alnisa Hernaiz scored 13 points to lead New Jersey City, and Jiana Clark had eight tallies and a game-best 10 rebounds.

 

William Paterson will visit Manhattanville Monday, Jan. 7, at 7:00 p.m.
