EMU Women Get By WildCats For ODAC Road Win

More news about: Eastern Mennonite

LYNCHBURG, VA --- Even without their "A" game on offense, the Eastern Mennonite women still mustered enough to pick up a road win Saturday afternoon, topping Randolph College 63-47 in Lynchburg.

The Royals shot just 36% from the floor, but grabbed 27 offensive rebounds and held a massive 52-32 overall advantage on the boards.

Neither team scored on their first four possessions until EMU broke off zero with a Steph Rheinheimer (Manheim, PA/Lancaster Mennonite) triple 2:17 into the game.  The host WildCats had a short-lived 7-6 lead at the 14-minute mark before an 8-0 run put the Royals back in front.

The women led 29-21 at halftime, and then never let the lead get below eight points in the second half.

With starter Bianca Ygarza (Conestoga, PA/Penn Manor) hampered with foul trouble early, Shakeerah Sykes (Dumfries, VA/Forest Park) stepped up and charted 14 points and nine rebounds.  Seven of her boards were off the offensive glass.  Jess Rheinheimer (Manheim, PA/Lancaster Mennonite) had 11 points, nine caroms, three blocks and two steals.  Keyla Baltimore (Bristow, VA/Brentsville District) added 11 points and three steals.  The trio combined to score 25 of EMU's 34 points in the second half.

Ygarza finished with seven rebounds, including six offensive.  Raiven Patterson (Pulaski, VA/Pulaski County) had nine points.

The victory pushes the Royals to 7-4 overall and gives them a three-game winning streak.  The women are also 3-1 in ODAC play.  They play their final non-conference game on Monday, hosting Elizabethtown at 6:00pm in Yoder Arena.
