Kissimmee, FL – The St. Joseph's College women's basketball team (8-3) held off a late comeback by the Mighty Macs' of Immaculata University (4-8), 63-61, to win the consolation game of the ECAC Holiday Classic.
Leading the way for St. Joseph's were juniors Danielle Hamlin (Centereach, N.Y. / Centereach) and Christina Cohen (Smithtown, N.Y. / Smithtown East). Hamlin scored 20 points on 7-of-11 from the floor and Cohen added 18 points with four three-pointers.
The Eagles came out firing in the first half shooting 48.3% from the floor and led by as much as 14 points. Laura Cohen (Smithtown, N.Y./Smithtown East) scored 16 points powering the Eagles to a 35-26 lead going into the locker room.
The Mighty Macs came out of the half determined to make up the deficit and cut the Eagles lead to two from a jumper by Adriana Sciascia. The Eagles went on a 16-11 run over the next 12 minutes to extend their lead to 15 with 5:07 left on the clock. The Mighty Macs made a late run to be down only three with nine seconds left in the game. The Lady Eagles defense stood its ground as St. Joseph's hung on to win 63-61.
The next game for the women is away at Richard Stockton (5-2) on January 7, at 7:30 p.m.
