DE PERE, Wis. - St. Norbert College fell just short in a thrilling non-conference game with Loras College, falling 56-54 to the Duhawks on Connie Tilley Court at Schuldes Sports Center.
The Green Knights (8-3) nearly erased a six-point deficit at 55-49 with just over 1 minute remaining. Maggie Tansey hit a 3-pointer from the left win, and then Loras turned the ball over with 44 seconds left. St. Norbert then turned it over but Loras missed a layup. Tasha Giese's free throws cut the deficit to 55-54 with 16 seconds to go.
Loras (10-1) missed the front end of a 1-and-1 with 13 seconds left, but Katie Langmeier's offensive rebound led to a free throw with 11 seconds to go for a 56-54 lead. St. Norbert had a solid look for the tie, but Giese's difficult leaning jumper was short as time expired to set off a wild Loras celebration at mid-court.
St. Norbert held a 10-point lead in the first half at 26-16, but the Duhawks took advantage of foul trouble by the host to finish the half on a 15-1 to take a 31-27 halftime lead. The Duhawks led 35-31 early in the second half before the Green Knights took their largest lead in the second half at 44:37 with 10:48 to go.
Megan Doody led all scorers with 17 points for the Green Knights. Lauren Carman added 10 points and six rebounds. St. Norbert shot 34.6 percent (18-for-52) from the floor and was outrebounded 41-34.
Langmeier led Loras with 14 points and 10 rebounds, including seven on the offensive end. Brit Kent had 13 points off the bench for the Duhawks, who shot 38.9 percent (21-for-54) from the floor.
