Albright Beats Averett to Complete Successful Holiday Trip

The Albright College women's basketball team completed a perfect 2-0 holiday trip by beating Averett 70-58 at the Land of Magic Classic on Sunday.

Four Lions were in double-figures, with three of them shooting over 50% from the floor. Albright got out to a fast start for the second consecutive game, shooting 54.3% in the first half.

Junior Shawn Barczynski had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds, making 5-of-9 shots. Also having great days offensively were Meghan Boyle (9-for-13, 21 points, six offensive boards) and Tara Sabotchick (8-for-13, 22 points).

Senior Kari Ludy also had 10 points, while sophomore Jessica Venturelli had a game-high eight assists.

Sabotchick opened the scoring with a three-pointer, and Albright led 13-4 after another basket from the sophomore guard.

Boyle gave the Lions their first double-digit lead at 17-6, less than seven minutes into the action. A Ludy jumper made it 19-8 as Albright never trailed.

Freshman Kadijah Bishop converted a lay-up to put the Red and White up 23-8, and Albright led 27-15 after a pair of Ludy free throws.

Albright led 43-25 at the break after closing the first half on a 14-6 run, despite a basket in the final seconds from Averett's Caroline Young.

Mette Scheiman had 15 points for Averett, while Young added 11 points and seven rebounds.

Albright improves to 6-4, and will travel to Cabrini on Thursday night for a non-conference encounter; Averett is 1-8 on the season.
