DePauw Wins Amy Hasbrook Tournament and Moves to 11-0; Kate Walker Named MVP

Top-ranked DePauw improved to 11-0 on the season and won the Amy Hasbrook Memorial Tournament title following a 73-43 win over Rockford in today's title game. The win was the Tigers' 36th straight regular season victory.

Rose-Hulman finished third in the tournament following a 52-49 win over Spalding in the day's first game.

The teams were scoreless for the opening two-plus minutes before DePauw caught fire and hit six of its next eight field goal tries and led 15-0 with 12:38 left in the half.

The Tigers built a 30-4 lead before Rockford connected on its first field goal of the contest with 5:20 remaining in the half. DePauw took a 41-15 lead into the intermission. That was close as the Regents got, however, as DePauw led by as many as 35 down the stretch.

DePauw senior Kate Walker was named the tournament's most valuable player and finished the game with nine points and five rebounds in 16  minutes. Joining Walker on the all-tournament team were Kathleen Molloy (DePauw), Alex Gasaway (DePauw), Erin Ryczek (Rockford), Addie Johnson (Rose-Hulman) and Kelly Harrod (Spalding).

Molloy paced the Tigers with a career-high 15 points and hit four of five from three-point range. Lauren Abendroth followed with 10 points and was perfect on four field goal tries, while Ellie Pearson grabbed 12 rebounds and Ali Ross dished out four assists. Savannah Trees led the way with five steals, while Pearson had four.

Ryczek paced Rockford with 17 points with Lindsay Lengjak, Nicole Lawler, Jessica Bjerning and Cierra Johnson each grabbing five rebounds.

The Tigers shot 45.2 percent from the field including 55.6 percent in the first half and 47.4 percent (9-19) from three-point range. DePauw held Rockford to just 30.8 percent from the floor and enjoyed a 38-33 rebounding edge.

With just 10 turnovers to the Regents' 22, the Tigers also held a 24-4 edge in points off of turnovers.

DePauw returns to North Coast Athletic Conference action on Friday, January 4, when it hosts Allegheny at 6 p.m.

In the first game of the day, Rose-Hulman led by as many as 11 in the first half and held Spalding without a field goal for the first 12:47 of the contest. However, the Golden Eagles closed the gap to three at the break and led by as many as five in the second half. The Engineers outscored Spalding, 8-2, in the final 4:05 to grab the win.

Johnson led Rose-Hulman with 14 points, while Kelsey Floof had 13 and 11 rebounds. Harrod paced Spalding with 17 points and Kristen Baxter grabbed 10 rebounds.
