AUSTIN, Tex. (December 29, 2012) - Stout reeled off a 9-2 run late in the second half to earn their second straight comeback victory, a 78-74 win over Concordia University Texas, Saturday evening in the first game of their winter break trip.
Trailing 63-62 with six minutes remaining in the game, Stout tightened up the defense, and got buckets from five different players to secure the win. The win marked the second straight game that Stout turned a halftime deficit into a victory.
The evenly-contested first half featured four lead changes and two ties, and neither team ever led by more than six points. Concordia grabbed the first lead of the game and led, 9-4, six minutes into the contest. Stout battled back, slowly narrowing the lead before they tied the game at 15, midway through the half. One minute later, Whitney Rawdon hit a bucket to give Stout their first lead of the game, a 19-17 advantage.
Ashley Deschampe (Fr, Duluth, Minn.), who had a team-high nine points in the half, hit a free throw to extend the lead to four, which turned out to be Stout's largest lead of the half. The Tornados grabbed the lead back, and extended it to six points with two minutes to play in the half, but Stout scored seven of the half's final nine points, giving themselves a much more manageable, one point deficit at half.
The Tornados had multiple five point leads in the second half, but Stout stayed within striking distance, much like they did in the first half. Their 9-2 run gave them a 72-64 lead with under two minutes to play, setting up what looked like an easy coast to the finish.
Sami Schoeder (Jr, Durand) led Stout with 16 points while Katelynne Folkers (So, Fall Creek) grabbed a team-high nine rebounds.
Concordia was able to pull within two, but the Blue Devils sealed the victory with free throws down the stretch.
Stout will play East Texas Baptist University, tomorrow, at 2 p.m.
