St. Mary's City, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's basketball team picked up their second straight loss, falling for the second time this season to future Capital Athletic Conference member, the Christopher Newport University Captains.  The Captains posted a 71-48 non-conference victory Saturday night.

Christopher Newport (9-0), who will officially join the CAC in 2013-14, remains undefeated on the season while the Seahawks drop to 5-5 overall.

Senior Joanna Murray (Reisterstown, Md./Franklin) was St. Mary's leading scorer for the sixth time this season as Murray netted 11 points in the second half to finish with a game-high 13 while senior forward Taylor Petrisko (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) matched her season-best 11.

The Captains opened up the game with a 12-0 run en route to a 44-15 halftime advantage, shooting nearly 59% from the field and going a perfect 9-for-9 at the free throw line.  Junior guard Tia Perry (Goldsboro, N.C./Tabb [Va.]) and sophomore center Camry Green (Richmond, Va./Richmond Community) led all players with 10 points each while Green hauled in five rebounds.

Petrisko paced St. Mary's in the first half with seven points while juniors Aura Payne (Glen Burnie, Md./Severn School) and Sophie Pruden (Carrboro, N.C./Chapel Hill) each brought down three boards.  Pruden went on to finish the contest with a team-best eight caroms.

St. Mary's outscored the Captains, 33-27, in the second half as the Seahawks' shooting jumped from 18.2% to 29.0% and CNU dropped to 33.3%.

Christopher Newport sent St. Mary's to the line 33 times during the game, including 21 times in the second stanza.  The Seahawks finished the contest with a 21-of-33 effort from the charity stripe, making 14 in the final 20 minutes.

Green ended the night with a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Captains while Perry also had a dozen points in the win.

St. Mary's looks to turn back its two-game skid on Wednesday, January 2 when the Seahawks travel to Harrisonburg, Virginia for a non-conference battle against Eastern Mennonite University.  Tipoff is set for 7:00 pm.
